Windscreen Repairs

"REPAIR First… REPLACE When Necessary®"

NOVUS® Mitcham can fix windscreen chips and cracks for all types of vehicle, makes and models from classic and vintage vehicles to modern and prestige cars, including, ute’s, vans, trucks, buses, earthmoving equipment, fixed plant and machinery

A windscreen chip can turn into a crack and cause your car windscreen to be vulnerable to further damage at any time while using your vehicle. Repair your windscreen before it needs to be replaced and save time and money and prevent a windscreen replacement. At NOVUS® Auto Glass Mitcham we can repair a windscreen crack up to 15cm (6 inches) long usually in around 20-30 minutes. Although most windscreen glass can be repaired if the damage is not too extensive, side window auto glass and rear window auto glass cannot be repaired and will require full replacement.

Repair Windscreen Cracks and Chips before you need a Full Windscreen Replacement

Another important reason to repair windscreen cracks and chips before you need a full windscreen replacement is that replacement may cause a possible loss of strength of your vehicle’s factory windscreen seal. The windscreen is a vital component for preserving the structural integrity of a vehicle involved in an accident, particularly a rollover. The car windscreen provides support for the roof, preventing it from collapsing. Keeping the original factory seal also helps avoid the risk of water or air leaks. Auto windscreen repair can preserve the structural integrity and safety of your vehicle.

Using the NOVUS® Auto Glass proven repair method is a safe and effective way to repair your windshield. A qualified NOVUS® technician will use only leading industry materials and equipment to inject resin into the windshield crack chip. The technician will then cure the resin and polish the windscreen, returning approximately 75% to 95% of the optical clarity to the damaged glass and restoring the windscreens structural integrity back to almost what it was before the windscreen was damaged.

Windscreen repairs should be carried out as soon as possible when damage occurs to maintain optimum safety and it is important to have a trained specialist NOVUS® Auto Glass technician perform your windscreen repair to ensure the safety of your vehicle and passengers.

Windscreen Repairs FAQs

Can all windscreen chips be repaired?

Not every windscreen chip can be repaired. Small stone chips, bullseye breaks and some star-shaped chips can often be successfully repaired if they haven’t spread into long cracks. The size, depth and location of the damage all play an important role. Chips located directly in the driver’s line of sight or near the edge of the windscreen may require replacement instead. Our technicians will inspect the damage and recommend the safest and most cost-effective solution.

It’s always best to repair a chipped windscreen as soon as possible. Even a small chip can become a larger crack due to temperature changes, road vibrations and everyday driving. Repairing the damage early is usually quicker, more affordable and helps preserve the original factory windscreen. Delaying repairs can often result in a full replacement becoming necessary.

A professional windscreen chip repair significantly improves the appearance of the damage, but the repair may not disappear completely. The goal of the repair is to restore the structural integrity of the glass and prevent the damage from spreading further. In most cases, only a small blemish remains after the repair has been completed.

Some very small cracks may be repairable, but larger cracks generally require a full windscreen replacement. Factors such as the length of the crack, its location and whether it affects the driver’s visibility all influence whether a repair is suitable. We’ll carefully assess the damage and recommend the safest option for your vehicle.

Our technicians use specialised equipment to clean the damaged area before injecting a clear, high-strength resin into the chip. The resin is then cured using ultraviolet light and polished to restore the strength of the glass. This process helps prevent the chip from spreading while improving the appearance of the damaged area.

Whenever it’s safe and practical to do so, repairing a windscreen is often the preferred option. Repairing the original factory glass is generally faster, more affordable and environmentally friendly than replacing the entire windscreen. However, if the damage compromises the safety or structural integrity of the glass, replacement will always be recommended.

We can often repair common types of windscreen damage, including stone chips, bullseye breaks, star breaks and small combination breaks. Every repair is assessed individually, as factors such as the size, depth and location of the damage determine whether repair is possible. Our priority is always your safety.

DIY repair kits may provide a temporary cosmetic improvement, but they often cannot achieve the same level of strength, clarity or durability as a professional repair. Our technicians use specialised equipment and professional-grade resin to restore the damaged area as effectively as possible. A professional repair also ensures the damage is properly assessed to determine whether a replacement is the safer option.
