5 ways to reduce windscreen glare

Windscreen glare

It has happened to all of us: you’re turning a corner and suddenly direct sunlight hits your windscreen, and you can’t see anything. Windscreen glare is not only frustrating when you drive, but also extremely dangerous as it decreases your visibility. So what can you do to prevent windscreen glare while you’re driving?

1. Clean your windscreen

The first thing you can do to avoid windscreen glare is to keep the windows clean. Regular cleaning can prevent dirt from invading the windscreen, which will block the light reflected from the window, and cause glare. Windscreen cleaner is also a great way to sanitise your windscreen and eliminate dust, thereby reducing your glare.

2. Use tint on your windscreen

If you want to drive in sunlight, you need your windscreen to be tinted. If you don’t have tinted windows, ask a professional to tint your windows for you. Tinting will cut down on the glare from the overhead sun and keep road users from being blinded. Having a limited view of the road can cause many accidents and should be avoided at all costs.

3. Wear sunglasses

In addition, it’s important to wear sunglasses while driving in the sunlight. Sunglasses will protect your eyes from the glare caused by the sun, and you’ll be able to drive smoothly for longer periods of time.

4. Use other lights as well

If you have driven in a car or truck with HID (high-intensity discharge) headlights, you know what it’s like to drive in the dark with a headlight that is 10 times brighter than normal headlights. If you want to reduce glare that can impair your visibility while driving, invest in high-intensity discharge headlights. You’ll be able to see better and the glare will be reduced because the light will be more focused.

5. Keep the windows closed

To prevent glare, keep your windows rolled up and don’t hang your head out of the window to see where you’re going. Having all the windows rolled up will keep direct sunlight from hitting your windscreen.
