How to remove car scratches

Unfortunately, all cars will one day or another acquire a few scratches here and there. Whether it’s from tree branches, car park trolleys, or an accidental key scratch, it’s bound to happen to the best of us. The good news is that not all scratches are created equal, which means that you can remove some of them yourself!

A good quality rubbing compound

Protective wash

Protective wax

Steps to follow

The first thing you want to do is thoroughly wash your car. This is best done by hand as drive-through car washes can often be harsh on the exterior of your car. You should focus particularly on the area that is scratched and ensure that there is no dirt or grime left around it.

Dry the area using a microfibre cloth.

Lightly apply a thin layer of the rubbing compound onto a new cloth and rub the compound in a circular motion of the scratch. You may need to repeat this process a few times until the scratched area is no longer there.

Once the scratch is completely removed, use a clean microfibre cloth to wipe away the area.

If you’re happy with the end result, then seal the area with a protective wax

And you’re all done! This is a simple and cost-effective way to remove car scratches. One thing to note is that this method works best for light scratches. If your car scratch is more serious, then you should seek professional advice so you avoid doing more harm than good to your car paint.

Cars are big investments, and we all want them to be looking their best for as long as possible. Whilst you cannot completely guarantee that your car will not get scratched, there are a few preventative steps that you can take to reduce the risks of it happening. These include:
